The Coffee Development Fund (CoDF) would like to clarify to the general public and specifically to coffee farmers who have benefited from the credit facility that the CODF loans are not part of the on-going Government’s Coffee debt waivers to Cooperatives unions and SACCOs.
Buoyed by high coffee prices in the international market, the desire for the profitable cash crop has seen stakeholders increase efforts to encourage the farmers in the traditional coffee growing areas to increase their production, while advising those in non traditional areas to establish coffee farms. The availability of huge and fertile tracts of land in Rift valley means that the region is poised to become an important grower of the cash crop.
On July 20, 2011 the Coffee farmers and stakeholders from Gatundu South District held a consultative meeting under the auspices of Gatundu Coffee Development Forum, (GaCoDeF) to deliberate on matters affecting coffee growing in the area.
