Coffee Research Foundation
History of organization
Coffee Research in Kenya dates back to 1908 when the colonial
government appointed the first Coffee Entomologist, Coffee
Research Station (CRS) was established in 1994 at Jacaranda
Estate near Ruiru and in 1964 the Coffee Research Foundation
(CRF) was incorporated as a company limited by Guarantee
under the Company Act (CAP 486). The Foundation is a State
Corporation under the Ministry of Agriculture.

To be the center of excellence in research for development
and sustainable wealth creation in the coffee industry.
Our
Mission
To research, develop and disseminate appropriate technologies
for enhanced coffee productivity, quality and value addition.
Policy
direction
A Board of Directors runs the Coffee Research Foundation.
The Board comprises of 9 members elected directly to represent
coffee growers. Other members are Permanent Secretary,
Ministry of Agriculture (MOA), Permanent Secretary, Ministry
of Finance, Director of Kenya Agricultural Research Institute
(KARI) and one representative from the public universities
offering Agriculture courses.
Physical
location and branches
It has its headquarters at Coffee Research Station, Ruiru
(33 km from Nairobi) and substations at Koru (Kericho
District), Kitale (Trans Nzoia District, Kisii (Kisii
District) and Mariene (Meru Central District). CRF also
operates a Demonstration plot at Namwela (Bugoma District)
and several trail sites located all over the coffee growing
eco-zones.
